On the morning of 10 May, the LIFE Maronesa team had the pleasure of welcoming a group of Mechanical Engineering students from the Instituto Superior Técnico, under the guidance of Professor Manuel Heitor. The visit recalled last year’s interactions with the Lisbon academic institution, which began at the colloquium “From Space to Carbon”, in which there is a demand in the area of Space Engineering to measure and quantify the carbon in the soil using new digital and technological tools.
The visit focused mainly on touring some of the project’s monitoring plots and consequently showing some practical results and observing evidence of the recovery of mountain soil after the fires of September 2024. It was also discussed the possibilities of linking the soil recovery data collected with technological innovation capable of monitoring these same results through an App, using GIS maps and satellite images.
