As part of the project’s normal work routine, the last month since the September fires that affected the Alvadia, Soutelinho, Souto and Outeiro were spent on several field visits to monitor the damage caused by the summer fires and to follow the regeneration of the herbaceous vegetation that quickly occupied the areas that are grazed and those that were converted into pastures with prescribed fires. From these visits came some reflections that we have shared with our followers.
It was around the theme of these fires, the behaviour of the fire during that week and the recovery that could already be seen at the beginning of October, that we welcomed the delegation of participants and guests to the 46th Autumn Meeting of the Portuguese Pasture and Forage Society at the Casal da Bouça farm and the Soutelinho, Souto and Outeiro common lands.
Participants and guests also had the opportunity to be welcomed by the breeder of Casal da Bouça and the LIFE Maronesa project, Tommy Ferreira. After a brief presentation on the management of his farm, he answered all the participants’ questions and queries, as well as explaining the future actions planned for his farm.
Also noteworthy was our already popular CLIMA+ snack, served during lunch, which delighted the palate of the delegation, prepared by LIFE Maronesa project partners and chefs of the Clima Mais Positivo brand, Rita and João from Forno de Jales.
