LIFE Maronesa in the Eco-Schools Council of the Corgo School

After contacting and challenging the teachers at Vila Real’s JI/EB nº3 (Corgo) School, the first of several activities that will bring together the partnership between LIFE Maronesa and the Diogo Cão School Group in Vila Real was launched on 20 February.
It was with pleasure and pride that we accepted the invitation to join the Eco-Schools council of Vila Real’s JI/EB nº3 (Corgo) School and take part in the group’s first annual meeting of 2025. The Eco-Schools programme is part of the FEE – Foundation for Environmental Education initiative.

The meeting served to share the activities for 2024 and to evaluate the results of the sustainability surveys carried out among the school’s parents and students. The new partners and future activities to be carried out in 2025 were also presented, including the visit by students to the farms of the LIFE Maronesa breeders.

This partnership will also create a working group to develop a proposal for a Curriculum Unit on Mountain Grazing and Livestock to be taught every year at this school. This proposal, adapted to the age of the pupils (up to 9 years old), will include educational activities on the livestock farms of the Serra do Alvão breeders and other games to be played within the school, related to animal welfare and behaviour in extensive regimes, as well as the impact of the activity on the biodiversity of the territory.
