LIFE is the EU’s financial instrument that supports environmental, nature conservation and climate action projects across the EU. It supports projects that contribute to the implementation of the EU Birds and Habitats Directives, the Natura 2000 network and that contribute to the EU’s objective of halting the loss of biodiversity.

The LIFE program started in 1992 and has completed four phases to date. Since 1992, LIFE has co-funded more than 4,500 projects. For the 2014-2020 funding period, LIFE will contribute around €3.4 billion to the protection of the environment and climate.

The program is divided into four main themes:

01

Nature, Biodiversity;

02

Environment;

03

Climate Action;

04

Information, Governance.
